Troubleshooting Sync

We've tried to make sync in MealPlan simple and easy, but things can go wrong. This article will help figure out what the problem is.

If you're using iCloud, make sure you're signed in to iCloud using the same iCloud account on both devices.  

For Dropbox, make sure you've got the app installed on both devices, and that you've shared the MealPlanSyncData folder.  (If you're using the same Dropbox account on both devices, you don't need to do anything to share the folder).

Sync Status

When you turn on sync, MealPlan's settings screen will show "Syncing using iCloud" or "Syncing using Dropbox", and then the line below this will show the status of the sync. Normally this will be "Sync in progress", and then "Last sync: Today" and the time of the last successful sync.  It's the "Last sync" message that indicates that sync has completed successfully.

Wait for the first sync to complete

The first sync can take a while. If you leave MealPlan while sync is in progress, iOS may kill MealPlan before sync completes, and this means the data won't be in the cloud ready to sync to other devices. This isn't normally a problem unless you're on a slow network connection, but if you are having trouble with sync, turn it on, and then don't leave the Settings screen until sync completes.

Resetting Sync

If all else fails, you can reset your data in the cloud and start over.  Here's how to do that.

1. On all your devices, in MealPlan's Settings, tap "Stop Sync".
2. On one of your devices, tap on Sync, and tap on the sync service you want to use.
3. On this one device, tap on "Remove MealPlan Data".  This will remove the data from the cloud.  Wait for this to complete.
4. On the same device, tap Start Syncing.
5. Wait for sync to complete.
6. On the other device, start syncing.
7. Wait for sync to complete on that device.

That's it - your devices should be in sync.
